NAACP Announces the State Conference Executive Committee for 2007

The California NAACP Executive Committee at its December meeting approved significant appointments to its executive committees recommended by the President Alice Huffman. Former Assemblywoman Gwen Moore is the 1st Vice President. Debra Carter Kelly of Oakland is the 2nd Vice President. Both of these promotions were in keeping with the National rules of advancement of officers to fill an unexpected vacancy.
New appointments were Freddye Davis, Hayward NAACP President was approved as the 3rd Vice President, Ida Johnson, Secretary, Waudier (Woody) Rucker Hughes, President of the Riverside NAACP Branch will also serve as the South East Section Director and Warren Quann, Legislative aide to Assembly Member Mervyn Dymally was approved as the Political Action Chair. Chris Jackson of Oakland was a new addition to the Executive Committee a few months ago as Chair of a Task Force on the California Pension Funds.
President Huffman also announced that Dale Hunter, Director of Project Relations and Gas Transmission Distribution of PGE has agreed to join the Corporate Partnership Council of the State NAACP and will be recommended as the Chair to the group at its January meeting.
“We welcome the new members and thank those who are willing to assume more responsibility in our struggle for equity and fairness for all”, stated President Huffman.
The Executive Committee meets four times a year and acts on behalf of the state conference between conventions. The California NAACP is a part of the National NAACP, the oldest civil rights organization in America. It has 53 Branches and 30 Youth units.
